Deitrick Haddon Hits Stores Today

Gospel star Deitrick Haddon and Voices of Unity, are back in the Top 40. The multi-talented Haddon and VOU’s rock-edged, jungle rhythm “Judah (Let Me Hear You Praise)” just reached the #40 position on the BDS Top 40 national gospel radio playlist. The song is featured on the Blessed & Cursed movie soundtrack CD that hits retail shelves and online portals June 29, 2010.

The twelve-track CD features cameos by former Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams, BET Sunday Best finalist Jessica Reedy, Damita Haddon, and Men of Standard’s Lowell Pye, among others.

The CD features high tech pop anthems such as “I’m Blessed,” the retro soul vibe of “Praise In the House,” the sing-a-long jam “One Touch,” and the urgent R&B groove, “Don’t Leave Me Now.”

There is a special iTunes Exclusive Deluxe version of the CD that includes a digital booklet, bonus track “These Streets” and the “Don’t Leave Me” music video. There will be a special virtual listening party July 1st on http://www.gospelflava.com/.

This brilliant music provides the backdrop to Haddon’s first feature film Blessed & Cursed that will be released direct to DVD on July 27, 2010.

In a twist on the Biblical story of David and Saul, Blessed & Cursed (Tyscot Film &Entertainment/$19.95) depicts Dwight Hawkins’ (portrayed by Deitrick Haddon) struggle to realize his God-given purpose. Dwight must choose between family obligations and pursuing his own dreams of superstardom in the church world. In the end, he gets caught in a diabolical scheme of jealousy orchestrated by a church pastor. “I grew up in the church and unfortunately it wasn’t all great experiences,” Haddon says. “I intentionally brought these up in the movie. This movie will be a witnessing tool to win people back to the church.”

Icons of Apostles Paul & Peter Found in Rome

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

From Yahoo! News:

ROME – The earliest known icons of the Apostles Peter and Paul have been discovered in a catacomb under an eight-story modern office building in a working-class neighborhood of Rome, Vatican officials said Tuesday.
The images, which date from the second half of the 4th century, were discovered on the ceiling of a tomb that also includes the earliest known images of the apostles John and Andrew. They were uncovered using a new laser technique that allowed restorers to burn off centuries of thick white calcium carbonate deposits without damaging the dark colors of the original paintings underneath.

The paintings adorn what is believed to be the tomb of a Roman noblewoman in the Santa Tecla catacomb and represent some of the earliest evidence of devotion to the apostles in early Christianity, Vatican officials said in opening up the tomb to the media for the first time.

Dianna Hobbs Gearing Up for July Release

EEW Founder & Editor In Chief Dianna Hobbs is preparing to released her debut EP entitled "Do What He Said" on all major online retailers July 20.  The as-yet-to-be-titled debut album is slated for a Fall 2010 release.

Earlier this year, Hobbs signed with Indie Buzz Records as its first solo artist. I think I need to mentioned here that Indie Buzz Music Corporation is owned by Hobbs and her husband, Kenya Hobbs.

To preview the single go to diannahobbsmusic.com

The song is very contemporary. The first time I listened, I wasn't feeling it, but after a second or third listening, I found myself liking it. I am quite sure we will see a lot more from the multi-talented Dianna Hobbs.

Im back! Sorry to leave you all but I had to take a few days off just to rejuvenate and renew myself. It is great to be back!!

So as I was crusing Twitter today, I came across this one from Kirk Franklin and just had to share with you all:

This really hit me today. I am going through a tough spot in my personal life and feel that my prayers are going unheard. There are forces, or rather trash/roaches, that I have to exterminate in order to get answered prayers.

What roaches/trash are you harboring that's preventing your prayers to go unanswered??

Priest Accused of Targeting, Swaddling Immigrants in a Wedding Fraud Scheme

Thursday, June 10, 2010

While crusing the internet, I came across this story from the UK. This is sad that a man of the cloth falls because of greed and money, but we serve a God that is able to redeem and restore us!

**********************************

A vicar allegedly presided over hundreds of sham marriages in a "massive and cynical scheme" to exploit vulnerable people and enable illegal immigrants to stay in Britain, a court has heard.
Rev Alexander Brown married 383 couples in the four years to July 2009 at the Church of St Peter and St Paul in St Leonards, Sussex, a 30-fold increase on the 13 marriages held there in the preceding four-year period.

David Walbank, opening the case for the prosecution, told Lewes crown court: "He conducted each of these wedding ceremonies ostensibly according to the rites of the Church of England but knowing full well these were sham marriages not entered into for the proper reasons but as part of an immigration fraud."

Brown is charged with conspiracy to facilitate breaches of immigration laws with two other men, Rev Michael Adelasoye, a solicitor who specialised in immigration, and Vladymyr Buchak, a Ukranian man who was living illegally in the UK.

Of the 383 weddings in the four-year period, 90 were between couples who claimed to live on one road close to the church. In the space of one month in the spring of 2009 Brown married four couples who gave their address as the same house on a nearby street. These were false addresses, according to the prosecution.

The prosecution said that after his arrest in June last year Brown told police "he had belatedly grown suspicious about the number of weddings going through his church and had planned to cut down on the number of ceremonies". In fact, said Walbank: "In the period prior to his arrest the frequency of the weddings continued to increase dramatically." Almost half the "bogus" weddings occurred in the final six months before Brown's arrest.

During the six-week trial the court will hear from some of those who undertook the allegedly sham marriages and were given a police caution. Brown and the other two defendants deny the charges.

**************************
Continue to pray for all parties involved.

Exclusive Interview | Demaries Glaspie "Thanksgiving is the key"

I had a chance to speak with the lovely and God-filled Demaries Glaspie. We chatted as if we knew it each other instead of meeting for the first time! I am excited about the doors God has opened for her and her calling.

Read on as she opens up about meeting her husband, the exodus from New Orleans to Texas, and what she misses about home.

On how she was given the opportunity to open for Earnest Pugh:
I was online one night looking for different events and a friend of mine contacted me through Facebook. She let me know that the [Earnest Pugh] concert* was going on at the [Household of Faith Christian Fellowship] church [in Round Rock]. We exchange contact information. Lady Val Hooper and her husband went online and listen to some of my music. They liked what they heard so they contacted me and asked if I would be able to come out.

*The concert is this Friday, June 11, click here for ticket information/church location

On her song, “Let Go”:
It’s the title song off my upcoming album, which drops in August. “Let Go” is really an encouragement song for the saints – and a reminder that no what you are going through, thanksgiving is the key. When we give thanks to God we can let go of our problems and the issues that we have and able to be the light that God wants us to be to the world. When we are focused on our problems and issues, it is hard for us to shine our light. If we just leave those things in God’s hands and let go and let God do what He is going to do with those issues, then we can focus on being that light.

Getting Back to (Healthy) Basics

While cruising the 'net, I came across this story regarding our need for natural food. It is important for us to take care of ourselves. I will admit that I do not do it as much as I should. Both of my parents died due to illnesses that could have been prevented.

****
At graveside services, we commit the deceased to the ground—ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Yet, we often don’t consider that the earth we were created from was filled with the very minerals our internal organs required to function properly.

God created the first natural pharmacy in the Garden of Eden and this should define our health choices. “And God said, ‘See I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be your food.’” (Genesis 1:29).

News | Elderly Woman Beaten to Death in Church

WYNNE, Ark. -- Authorities are investigating the death of an 80-year-old woman who was found beaten to death in a church.
Sheriff's Detective Keith Vaughn says officials received a call about 12:30 p.m. Sunday that a body had been found at the Central United Methodist Church.

The sheriff's office says the pastor of the church said services at Central United had been canceled and were being held at another church.

When parishioner Lilian Wilson didn't show up at the other church, the pastor went looking for her.

Vaughn said Wilson appeared to have suffered blunt force trauma to the head.

Church members say Wilson may have been beaten with a cross.

"It's just unbelievable," said one church member who wanted to remain anonymous.

"We hear it in other places but it doesn't happen here."

Wilson was at the church Sunday to pick up disaster relief buckets to take to another church, said church members.

An animal lover, she volunteered at the area animal shelter and fostered cats in her home.

She also worked with veterans, was involved in the library system, and was a registered nurse who had retired after working many years in Memphis.

"We're just in shock, devastated and angry," said longtime friend and neighbor Linda Peeler.

"We're angry that someone would do that to someone that helped so many people. And to do it in a church, that's the hardest."

A side door to the small church now has been boarded over with plywood.

Friends say it's possible someone broke into the church and Wilson surprised whoever was inside.

Peeler said her friend was incredibly caring and she suspects Wilson even offered to help the people who killed her.

"Probably the first thing she said when she walked in the church was, 'Can I help you?'" said Peeler.

"She was 80-years-old. She wasn't a threat to anybody. They didn't have to hurt her."

Authorities have not released a motive but have been unable to find the victim's purse.

They believe the suspect(s) stole Wilson's grey 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis.

News | Woman Stole 17 Cars in 8 Weeks

People are becoming more and more desperate.

***********

A 29-year-old woman is accused of stealing 17 vehicles after taking the keys out of unsecured gym lockers or driving the vehicles off of dealership parking lots, according to an arrest affidavit.

Last month, Austin police arrested and charged Cynthia Huster-Forrest with felony theft in what they say was a crime spree from March 17 to May 27.

She remains in the Travis County Jail with bail set at $200,000.

Her arrest affidavit said she went into several gyms in the Austin area and took purses or keys from unlocked lockers. She took the cars from the lot of the gym or found addresses from the driver's licenses she stole, the affidavit said.

Forrest also stole two vehicles from dealerships after asking to test-drive cars and not returning them, the affidavit said.

Police said they began to notice the trend of stolen vehicles and of stolen purses and other items from women's lockers in fitness centers in March.

Huster-Forrest left the stolen cars in random places, the affidavit said, including at a hotel, a comedy club, other fitness centers, dealerships, neighborhood streets and a San Antonio apartment complex.

The affidavit said all 17 vehicles were recovered, but it was unclear if any were damaged.

Police said the case's turning point was when photos of Huster-Forrest were taken when she tried to cash a stolen check at a Money Box.

Huster-Forrest has had previous run-ins with police, including convictions for unauthorized use of a vehicle and charges of drug possession, according to open records.

Police said the retail value of all the stolen vehicles was about $203,875, which classifies the thefts as a first-degree felony. She could face up to life in prison if convicted.

Teacher Dies After Breaking Up Fight Between Teen Couple

This story is really sad. Please pray for the Lloyd family, the school, and the teens and their families.

*****

A Massachusetts high school teacher died after breaking up a fight between a teenage couple.

Douglas Vaughn Lloyd stopped breathing and turned blue shortly after intervening to break up the scuffle between a 16-year-old boy and his girlfriend at a school in Fitchburg, Mass., Friday morning, The Boston Globe reported.

Lloyd was rushed to nearby Leominster hospital and pronounced dead. The teenagers are facing domestic assault charges in juvenile court.

"There was hitting and yelling involved," one student told a local Fox News affiliate. "He wasn't feeling too good after they split up and he just collapsed."

It does not appear that Lloyd was actually struck by either teenager during the altercation. His cause of death is, for now, unknown. Police and state forensics experts are investigating the case, according to The Boston Globe.

Exclusive Interview | No Weapon

Thursday, June 3, 2010

With the upcoming release of their mixtape, Fully Focused, I had a chance to sit down with No Weapon in a very candid interview. D Free, Cali, and Myke Jay are amazing men of God with killer comedic deliveries (I was in stitches the whole time). In part one of a two part interview, read along as they discuss the mixtape and Facebook Fellowship event, their fav Sonic foods, and why John P. Kee is going to open up the Rapure.

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to meet with me. Let’s start off by introducing yourself.

Myke: Myke Jay 1/3 of No Weapon.

DFree: I’m DeChard Freeman. I’m 28..

Cali: a Capricorn

DFree: No I’m a Pisces. [Laughs]. Hold on I did not get all my introduction in. I’m married to Kayla and I have three sons and I love Jesus and He’s in love with me.

Cali – Ok. I don’t know who that was. My name is James Calahan. Nickname - They call me Cali.

DFree – And he is still hiding from his wife [Laughs]

Cali – Husband to one wife, two kids with a possible on the way.

AWWW….

DeVon Odems: Im DeVon Odems, No Weapon’s manager.

How did you all meet?

Myke: I believe DeChard and I met first. I auditioned for a group he was singing in previously called Divine…

DFree: Unique Prayse

Myke: Unique Prayse. Later we met again in Austin’s chapter of GMWA. We were friends before I met Cali. We met on a trip singing with Chester Baldwin in Liberty, Texas. The rest is…

DFree: Hold on… I think there’s a mistake- we were singing outside after a GMWA function…

Cali: On the steps of St. James

DFree: No we move there but we were at a church on the Eastside [of Austin].

Cali: Yeah, you are right.

DFree: So, see I’m right. You are going to noticed during this interview that I’m right most of the time. [Laughter from Myke and Cali]. I would say all the time but just in case…most of the time.

[All three breaks out in laughter]

Whose idea was it to start the group, No Weapon?

Cali: It was all our ideas. There was no specific person who took the lead. One night after a musical we stayed around and started singing different songs. We loved the way that we vibe together, the connection. We were motivated to continue – we did not want that particular moment to leave – so we search to create this group, No Weapon. We have been together now 15 years. I know Myke doesn’t look that old.

DFree: Did you say 15?

Wow. Most marriages don’t last that long.

DFree: We’ve been separated a couple of times.
[Laughter]

Myke: No Weapon actually started out as a quintet.

DFree: Yep, we started out as five, now we are three.

No Weapon is like the male En Vogue – going from five to three.

Cali: Im not wearing a red dress [laughs].

TV | 'Golden Girl' Rue McClanahan dies at 76

From: Yahoo!

Rue McClanahan, the Emmy-winning actress who brought the sexually liberated Southern belle Blanche Devereaux to life on the hit TV series "The Golden Girls," has died. She was 76.
