Norman Hutchins, Tonya Baker Preparing for Live Recording

IR Music Group artist and founder Norman Hutchins is preparing for a return with a new live project. The live recording is set for June 12 at Love & Unity Christian Fellowship in Compton, California. Hutchins is known for such great works at "Jesus, I Love You", "Battefield", and "God's Got a Blessing (With My Name On It)".

Tonya Baker is prepping for her first live recording. The session will be held July 23 at The Ginghamsburg Church outside of Dayton, Ohio.

“I would be lying if I said I weren’t a bit nervous,” the singer confesses. “… There’s nothing like the live experience. You feel the energy from the people and the presence of God in the place. Most importantly, I don’t want the people to just come looking for a great show – but an encounter with God.”
The singer/songwriter has tapped Grammy award winning producer Myron Butler to handle production. This is a follow up to Baker's 2008 debut, Special Friend.

TV | Omarosa Seeking A Mate in 'The Ultimate Merger'

Friday, May 28, 2010

Billionaire and TV reality star Donald Trump has partnered with TV One on a new reality series, “Donald J. Trump Presents The Ultimate Merger." The new series will feature Omarosa, who became a reality TV star on Trump’s “The Apprentice,” as she searches for the perfect mate.

The series, typically a one-hour series, will premiere on TV One Thursday, June 17 in a special 90-minute episode at 9 pm, repeating at midnight.

Here’s the pitch for the show:

Voted America’s #1 reality TV villain by TV Guide, Omarosa has yet to meet her match ...until now! After mixing it up with some of TV’s toughest, including supermodel Janice Dickinson, talk show host Wendy Williams, and the “Celebrity Apprentice” Piers Morgan just to name a few, reality TV diva Omarosa has yet to give an inch in the boardroom, or on the reality set. But now, it is time for this strong-willed and wily schemer to settle down and find a husband.

Will she marry for love or money? And can this bevy of bachelors tame this diva?

“Omarosa was a great personality on the “Apprentice” that was watched by over 40 million people as it became the #1 show on TV. Omarosa is smart, witty, and difficult, but all of these qualities will make for some very interesting entertainment,” said Trump.

R.I.P | Gary Coleman

Former child star Gary Coleman passed today, according to a publicist. He was 42. Many of us remember him as the wisecracking youngster Arnold Drummond on "Diff'rent Strokes".

According to reports, Coleman fell ill Wednesday at his Santaquin, Utah residence and was rushed to the hospital.

This morning he went into a coma and was placed on life support.
"In recent years Gary Coleman has had difficulties, not only with health issues, but also with his personal and public life," his spokesman's statement said. "At times, it may not have been apparent, but he always has had fond memories of being an entertainer and appreciates his fans for all their support over the years. At this critical moment, we can only ask for your thoughts and prayers for Gary to make a speedy and full recovery."

Please continue to lift Gary's family in prayer.

MS Teacher Fired for Leading Class in Prayer

Thursday, May 27, 2010

I commend Ms. Hawley for not backing down for having a BOLDNESS to confess her faith in God. Continue to lift Ms, Hawley, Franklin County school district (including Superintendent Grady Flemming), and our kids in prayer.

***

A Franklin County [MS] High School teacher was fired on Tuesday for leading her students in prayer in the classroom.

Teacher Alice Hawley received a letter from the district signed by Superintendent, Grady Flemming saying her contract for the 2010-2011 school year was not being renewed.

Hawley says it's been a whirl-wind over the past two days since the district decided to reinstate her contract for the 2010-2011 school year on Wednesday.

She is thrilled they asked her to come back, but says the real challenge isn't over.

"The real victory will come when we can go in and freely pray. As we want to as the children want to, that's when real victory comes," said Hawley.

This same scenario happened once before to Hawley over 15 years ago. After several years, the district once again asked her to come back.

Even still, Hawley says she believes in the power of prayer and will continue to pray as long as her students are comfortable.

"And I'll never deny a child prayer if they ask for prayer," said Hawley.

Rumor Control | Bynum & Knowles ARE NOT in a Relationship

I don't know where this rumor came from but I am SO GLAD it is not true.

The Music World Entertainment camp released a statement refuting and clarifying the “recent rumors of a personal relationship between Mathew Knowles and Juanita Bynum are false. Their relationship is strictly professional.”

The latter portion of the statement was tagged with a reminder that the joint venture between Knowles and Bynum would be releasing a new single, “Soul Cry (Oh Oh Oh),” on June 22nd.

UPDATE (9:55am): So after a little digging (well not too much) Mediatakeout.com posted this "coupling" between Bynum/Knowles. Now, as anybody in the blogging world knows you don't take anything appearing on MTO as always being credible. So if you are going to click on the link I will caution you to take this with a HUGE portion of salt.

Is God a Sports Fan??

All too often we see athletes pointing to the heavens, bowing and praying, or kissing the cross worn around their necks giving thanks for a victory. There are some who feel this display of gratitude is a gimmick, more like selling a product, than giving thanks for the gifts God has granted that chosen athlete. Read on and weigh in.

Rich Franklin cornered the man who challenged him and launched a looping kick that caught him on his jaw.

The man's face flushed red, and his knees wobbled. Franklin moved in, pounding his opponent with haymakers until he collapsed, grimacing.

Franklin, an Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight, had just scored another victory. The chiseled fighter took the ringside microphone and faced the roaring crowd.

"I want to say thanks to God, all praise to him," he said. Then he bowed and folded his hands in prayer as his groggy opponent was led outside the ring.

Was it Franklin's right hand or was it the hand of God that helped him smite his opponent? Ringside viewers may disagree, but God seems to be standing in the corner of a lot of victorious athletes these days.

Baseball players point to the heavens after hitting home runs; NFL players pray in the end zone after scoring. Competitors routinely thank Jesus, along with their sponsors, in post-game interviews.

Thanking God from the winner's circle has become so common that one British newspaper published a letter to the editor entitled: "Leave me out of your petty games --Love, God."

The British letter raised a question: Does God care who wins on game day? And, if so, do losers somehow have less faith?

3 Steps to Personal Space Freedom

Do you come home and still feel as if you are at work? Do you see clutter everywhere? Do you have to search for peace in your home?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you need to get personal! How, you ask? By creating your very own “personal space” in your home (and daring anyone to go near it). Everyone needs a break, not only from work, but from other people – yourself included if you cannot seem to stop talking or if your brain is a non-stop machine – and even from life in general. There are enough pressures in an average person’s day to cause mental and emotional damage, sometimes leading to physical challenges as well. Creating a place solely for yourself is a great escape to peace. Try these three steps to personal space freedom:

Toddler Beaten to Death with Basketball Shoe

Friday, May 21, 2010

I know this is a Gospel blog but sometimes a story touches you so hard and deep that you can't ignore it. I have children and yes they do work my last nerve but I love them dearly. Children are a blessing from God - "Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward" (Psalm 127:3).  The world is getting darker and darker and Saints we must be a light unto the world.

***

A Memphis, Tenn., man was babysitting his girlfriend's toddler when she defecated on the floor. The man reacted to the accident by beating the 2-year-old toddler to death with a basketball shoe.

Calvin Jones, 23, admitted to local authorities that the forms of discipline he used on toddler Saniiyah Kuykendall included smacking her around with the back of his hand, then beating her with a basketball shoe.

When the toddler's 21-year-old mother, Anisha Alford, returned home, the little girl complained of not feeling well and, when touched, felt cold. An eyewitness at the apartment complex where the couple lives told police that at about 11:15 p.m. on the night of the incident, the child was seen spitting and gagging, and that her eyes were rolling toward the back of her head. The person advised the couple to take the child to a nearby hospital emergency room but the suggestion fell on deaf ears.

Instead, the couple went to bed, and when they woke up the next morning, the child was dead. Jones is charged with first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated child abuse. Alford is charged with one count of aggravated child abuse.

There were also two siblings, 4 and 1, in the home at the time. The children were placed with grandparents.

Police records do not indicate whether Alford was aware of the beating.

FASHION | Summer 2010 Trends - Boyfriend Blazers & Patched Jeans

Ah... Summer is right around the corner and it is the time of the year when we are working on our fitness shedding the pounds we put on during winter. So in an effort to get summer ready, here are just some of the trends that you will see this summer:

Boyfriend Blazers

The boyfriend blazer is a simple way to look chic whether on a Spring day or a mild Summer night. A slightly oversized jacket or blazer, sleeves rolled up, is the pinnacle of relaxed cool.

You do not have to be a bore and wear the blazer with denim all the time. The blazer goes well with slacks and a nice cami OR with a dress. Click here for examples

Patched Jeans
We have went from torn to ripped and now we are in the patched jeans era. Patched jeans are not for everyone but it is an option that is gaining momentum. Patched jeans work well as skinnies, or try patched denim flares for a revival of 70s chic.
Want to save your fav pair of jeans, click here and learn on to patched them.

Color Trends
With the recession still going on, we are much more cautious when it comes to spending habits. We dont want to completely change or reinvent our wardrobe. This season we are seeing designers using vibrant brights and neutral tones. The ten main color trends are:

*Turquoise
*Violet
*Tuscany
*Aurora
*Pink Champagne
*Eucalyptus
*Amparo Blue
*Fusion Coral
*Tomato Puree

Pastor Wright - "I'm Considered 'Toxic' to Obama"

Prez Obama's very opinionated ex pastor, Jeremiah Wright, is in the headlines again, but instead of the spoken form, he has taken it to the written form. In a missive written by Wright to Joseph Prischak, head of the Africa 6000 International, Wright makes some very unflattering charges against Obama and his administration:

"No one in the Obama administration will respond to me, listen to me, talk to me or read anything that I write to them. I am 'toxic' in terms of the Obama administration." Wright goes on to state that, "I am 'radioactive,' Sir. When Obama threw me under the bus, he threw me under the bus literally!" he wrote. "Any advice that I offer is going to be taken as something to be avoided. Please understand that!"

Prischak ask Wright for his assistance with the lobbying efforts of U.S. authorities to permit $25 million British pounds in interest to be sent to faith-based groups for the children of Haiti.

Obama and his administration has yet to release a statement regarding Wright's comments.

Exclusive Interview | Christawn

Tuesday, May 18, 2010

We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
 – Romans 12:6-8 NIV

Each of us possesses different gifts- some are called to prophesy, some to teach, some to preach. Others are called to rap. Christawn is one of them. His re-telling of his life as a drug dealer in the mean streets of New Jersey is both raw and revealing. At just 31, he has lived a life that most of us have only seen through television or movies. In this interview, Christawn discusses his call to ministry, his musical influences, and why his relationship with Christ is important.

Cassandra : Tell me about your album, Life Story

Christawn: Life Story is an album based on the stories about the lives of people that ran the streets. Much is based on what I’ve seen when I was in the streets. I’d say about 9 years ago I sold drugs in the streets of Camden, New Jersey. I was out there getting into a lot, like selling drugs and different types of stuff. God called me into ministry in 2004. He was speaking to me and told me to write an album that was based on the lives of people in the streets but also show people the other side to people transforming and living their lives for Christ. So…Life Story is really showing people who are out there in the streets that it is another side of life that is goodness and having a purpose for God.

I’ve been listening to, ok, more like bumping “Save Me” since the first time I heard it. What are you trying to convey in “Save Me”?

“Save Me” is a song that I wrote that displays a time when I was selling drugs and God saved me. He saved me when there was a point when it couldn’t have been anything else but God that saved me. [The experience] inspired me to write a song to let people know no matter what situation you are in, no matter how dark, God can pull you out of it. I was in a situation that I didn’t think I was going to get out. As I was doing the album I looked back [over my life] and was like “Man I need to write a song that not only inspires me but also inspires a whole lot of other people.” I wanted them to know that no matter what, God can bring you out of any situation, whatever it is. We have Micah Stampley on the song, whose voice is so powerful. We just came together and we got it done.

How were you able to get Micah to be a part of “Save Me”?

We were in the studio and we had all the verses laid to the song and the guy who was singing the hook at that time, didn’t fit the song. The producer, Gary Diggs, Shelton (the engineer) and I were sitting around [in the studio] and Shelton mentioned Micah Stampley. Shelton made a call to Ernest Pugh, and Ernest gave his number to Micah’s wife, who is also his manager. Gary talked to her; they agreed to listen to the song. So we sent the song for Micah to listen to. A few days later, they got back to us and said Micah liked the song, he wanted to participate and it went on from there.

I can understand Micah’s enthusiasm in wanting to be a part…the guitar intro is fire! Your lyrical style and delivery is very reminiscent of Nas or The Game. Do you get a lot of comparisons to Nas?

[Laughs] I do get compared to Nas a lot.

Laura Bush Says Abortion, Gay Marriage Should be Legal

In an taped interview with CNN's Larry King, Former First Lady Laura Bush revealed she supports the legalization of same-sex marriage and abortion.

Bush said she differed with her husband, former President George W. Bush, who is well-known for his opposition to gay marriage and abortion. While the two “disagree,” she said both understand where the other person is coming from.

“There are a lot of people who have trouble coming to terms with that because they see marriage as traditionally between a man and a woman,” Bush said in the interview. “But I also know that, you know, when couples are committed to each other and love each other, that they ought to have, I think, the same sort of rights that everyone has.”

The former first lady stated she could accept gay marriage and she believes the legalization of same-sex marriage will eventually occur in the United States.

What are your thoughts? Should gay couples have the same rights as married couples? Should abortion be legal??

7 Signs of a Godly Mother

Mother Pictures, Images and Photos

As we approach Mother's Day, I trust you have told your mother how important she is in your life. If not, you should. Alot of people in the world are without mothers. It is important to remember and reflect on what constitutes a Godly Mother. Here are seven signs of a Godly Mother according to Psalms 31:

1. Her Worth...Colossal
Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is FAR ABOVE rubies.

2. Her Work...Continuing
She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hand.

3. Her Wisdom...Charming
She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. v. 14, 21

4. Her Wealth...Considerable
She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. v. 16, 18, 24

5. Her Words...Consoling
She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. v. 26

6. Her Warmth...Captivating
Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. v. 28

7. Her Worship...Challenging
but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. v. 30

Busy 2010 for Karen Clark-Sheard

Thursday, May 6, 2010

2010 is shaping up to be a very, very busy year for Karen Clark-Sheard. The Detroit native is on the road in the hit play "Church Girl" while promoting her fifth album, "All in One" out this week. The release signals her first solo album in four years and the first under her new EMI Gospel distributed record label, Karew Records.

"This gospel stage play not only allows Karen to showcase her abilities as an actress and a singer, but also provides great promotion for her album," says Darrel Thompson, Karew Records general manager. "Feeding off the play's promotion also gained her exposure outside the traditional gospel media."

"All in One" is the second release on Detroit's Karew Records following 2009's "A Clark Family Christmas." Clark-Sheard and her husband, Bishop J. Drew Sheard, launched the label with plans to sign and develop other artists.

"This is a dream that I've always wanted to do," Clark-Sheard says.
Later this year, Clark-Sheard will jump from the stage to the big screen when filming begins on an Aretha Franklin biopic. Clark-Sheard will play a singer in one of the groups Franklin was in before going solo.

"My mother (gospel pioneer Dr. Mattie Moss-Clark) and Aretha's father were friends," Clark-Sheard says. "So I count this as a great privilege."
